PERRY MAJOR DUO
Two of America’s finest performers, Michelle Perry, horn, and Douglas Major, organ, have joined together to share their talents in a horn and organ showcase spectacular.
- Ms. Perry is the former horn soloist of the world-renowned Empire Brass Quintet, hailed as “North America’s finest brass quintet”, and has performed as a soloist with many orchestras in the US, Australia, Scandinavia, Europe, and Asia.
- Dr. Major, former organist and choirmaster of the National Cathedral in Washington DC, is a frequent international soloist, appearing with orchestras and specialized ensembles in Europe and the US.
Ms. Perry and Dr. Major have collaborated together for several years to great acclaim, presenting concerts throughout the US, as well as tours of Japan, China, Taiwan, and Malaysia with the Empire Brass Quintet.
Their repertoire includes Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary repertoire, with many arrangements by Ms. Perry and Dr. Major. They are happy to tailor a concert to a specific audience, hall, or concert organ, depending on the requests of the presenter. They are available for performances in concert halls with fine pipe organs, recital halls, educational programs and mini-residencies.
An internationally recognized organ solo artist, Douglas Major has toured throughout North America, Europe and the Far East. From 1988 through the spring of 2002 he was Organist and Choirmaster of the Washington national Cathedral. He now lives in Salem, Mass,. working as a composer of music for organ, synthesizer, choirs, and chamber ensembles, and also serves as Music Director of St. Michael’s Church in Marblehead. His recent compositions in Love Poem to God, was commissioned by the American Guild of Organists; Requiem in C Minor, premiered in Atlanta in October of 2005, and a suite for organ entitled Cape Ann Portraits, based upon locations along the Massachusetts coastline. His compositions include many sacred works, masses, anthems, psalm settings and organ music.
Dr. Major plays many recitals and concerts each season, as well as concerts with the Empire Brass Quintet. During the last 30 years, his appearances have taken him all over the United States, from California to Mine, and Florida to Washington and Canada. He has toured as organ soloist with the Orchestre National de France and Lorin Maazel, and toured in Japan in 1992 and again in 2002 with the Empire Brass Quintet. In November of 2005, Major played a concert tour in China, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. In May of 2001 and again in 2004 he participated in the American Organists’ Festival in Kiev, Ukraine, playing recitals to standing-room-only audiences.
Dr. Major’s solo recordings include eight organ compact discs, recorded on the Washington Cathedral’s magnificent 185 rank Skinner organ. With the Empire Brass Major has recorded A Bach Festival for Angel/EMI. His two most recent recordings include organ music by Bach and a second of music by Widor and Franck, demonstrating the incredible versatility of the Washington Cathedral Great Organ.
